NSMS Alternative Fuel Technology - Discussion Space

Posted on January 16, 2009 at 11:40 AM

NSMS discussion board for HHO, alternative fuel technology, and COSM and supporting technologies.  This is a community of experts and lay persons supporting each other's efforts in this arena.

Remember:  The only "bad" question is the question that isn't asked!

I do not find any settings for the order in which the comments are listed until now... 07, Sept 2010.

I hope it stays fixed.

NSMS says...
Gary,
I should have a COSM III finished to send to you. I have to send a few out to folks that jumped the gun early on and sent in the shipping before I was ready. I am also trying to continue with the project that I began a few years ago... also been on hold. I am attempting to design (or redesign) a motor to run on high voltage DC and low amperage using a much finer wire for the windings and neo magnets on the rotating element instead of induction or electromagnets (A DC pulse motor). The plan is to produce a low amperage motor of sufficient horse power to spin an asynchronous brush-less generator (an AC 3 phase motor basically) that will supply at least 80% of the household electrical needs. The power to run the motor is supplied by deep cycle batteries running an inverter which then powers a cascade voltage multiplier rectifier to get the low amperage high voltage DC. The batteries are maintained with solar panels and wind generator charging system. Whew. Or you could just plug the inverter into your wall socket but then you are using grid power. That's OK for grid tie systems but I would like to develop an off grid system. I know, this sounds like an attempt at over-unity. Probably not if you could determine a way to measure the energy added to the system by the incredibly powerful neo magnets. Plus, using the solar panels and wind generator charger adds considerable power to the system. If this works out I will pass this design on to the group here. Don't hold your breath.... could take awhile yet and I need to devote time to the cosm project.

NSMS: I like your ideas. I have been working toward freeing myself from the grid. I'm working on a Tesla radiant energy devise (sheet of aluminum mounted on a pole). I bought a permanent magnet alternator from Missouri wind and solar to be used as wind generator. No solar panels yet. Also building an aluminum can solar air heater. 12 rows of 16 soda cans. Only need about 64 more cans. :~)

That's an improvement! Good going.

Possibly an omen of things going your way now...

Chin up!

Webs finally created an option to list newest comments first. I swear I looked for it a long time ago and it wasn't there. The blog was listing the oldest first until just now. I could not get the blog to go to the last page... so I could not even see the new posts. In clicking on all the options in the editor, I filally found the option to list newest posts first.
Gary, I still want to get the items sent out. Seems a bit irrevelant at this point but I want this off my to do list. I do not know where this project will go in the future. I am finally in the final negotions ( I hope) with the infernal reven... serv.... Perhaps I can get things organized enough to move on.

Bob Dylan: "... can this really be the end?"

Has NSMS thrown in the towel too?

Well it never ends, Mom is home and doing well, I'm recovered from my minor operation, but the wife has stage 4 lung cancer. Not expected to last 6 months, no matter what they do. Enough to say I won't be spending much time online. We will be keeping her home and as comfortable as we can.

Thanks, NSMS, I know you'll deliver the COSM unit when it's ready. Let me know when and I'll send shipping $.
Hey! That was an interesting description of an off-grid power source for one's home. You write like you know what you're talking about - it's clear you've done research. Another worthwhile project that can help people.
Best, Gary

NSMS, Aaah... good to hear from you! Thanks for the news on the COSM units and what you've done to ensure they are the right stuff, despite the economic situation you're in and the exasperating policies of our "government". It takes fortitude to carry on when life's problems get heavy - doing SOMETHING creative is therapeutic and can be slightly uplifting, much better than sinking into apathy and becoming a welfare slug.
Looking forward to seeing one of the units and trying it out... persist!

Geezzz atfab, sounds like a s***t storm rather than just when it rains. I hope you and yours are better.
I do not even want to get started on Obama. (One Bad Ass Mistake by America)...OBAMA...
Yes Gary, I am still here and I am still in limbo with the Infernal revenue guys with the payroll taxes mix up. Looks like I am going to need about thirty thousand and change to get out of hock. Might as well be thirty million... heck, I could probably get bailed out of that. Anyway, just before my current s**t storm hit and depression set in, I completed a few cosm III units to ship. I ran out of LEDs a while back and am going to try to get some more this weekend so I can complete a few more until I run out of digital meters. Those will be a little harder to restock. I think they are about 12 bucks each.... maybe 15 bucks. I also need to review the installation instructions I have from John to make sure they are complete. A while back I was able to purchase a unit built by John. I felt it was necessary to have it to compare it's function to the units I built. I wanted to be sure the units I built are identical in function to the original as I never received my order and had no idea what to expect. I can report that all the units function the same. Before I had the original I was a little concerned about how the unit functioned under certain settings. The original is identical under the same settings. It appears to be a little quirky in it's adjustments and after reviewing all the notes I read a section that states that it will take some tweaking as sometimes changing one setting will affect the other settings... this is what I experienced and did not know it was normal.
Sorry for my silence. I have been having to deal with so much. Working six days a week...sometimes seven... trying to dig myself out of this hole I am in... trying to keep up with the bills... so far a loosing battle. I think I am in for some radical changes... I hate change. I like a comfortable rut to follow, however, right now I feel lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut...

When it rains. . . I had to bail out of my niece?s wedding music, I just couldn?t breath well. My wife had a bad chest cold for 2 weeks, Bronchitis. She finally went to the doctor but missed the wedding. My 80 year old Mother, fell dancing at the wedding and broke her hip, she was operated on this Monday in Road Island, Goes back home to CT. for therapy this Saturday. The wife had a CT scan Tuesday and now needs a biopsy, something in her lung. Obama is in Mexico courting his only chance at re-election and thinks I am a bigot because I?m tired of supporting illegal immigrants. Work is looking to layoff hundreds and is abolishing unfilled positions, in our contract renewal year. Last contract we took two and a half zero raise years. I?m going nuts running back and forth. And I need a safari outfitter to mow the lawns.

It's Spring and the environment is coming back to life - things are growing and surviving.
NSMS, we haven't heard from you in a while, so it's time to check if you are alive and surviving too.
An update on the project would be nice also - we still count on you.

Nothing seem to go as planed, I had the wife's car in the shop for 2 days, so I could'nt get around. Took my old Ovation '76 guitar back to the factory for repairs, 1.25 hours one way. Spent half a day getting my company "return to work physical. Took the snow plow and chains off the lawn tractor and put the mower deck on, rebuilt the carb, got the push mower and weed wacker cleaned up and did the lawns. Every thing took 3 times longer because I could'nt breath well or bend easily for a week and a half. It's like the Gods don't want me to get back in the shop to work on fuel savings.

Well I survived another operation, They did a laproscopic removal of a "Spot" on my right lung. It appears to be more of the same crap I had last year. I should have the final results this week. I hope this isn't on of those deals where they keep operating until they kill me. The good news is I can return to work on the 19th.
I am putting together a small test cell, 4 SS rods in a 4 inch by 9 inch PVC tube. The rods will be arranged in an 2 inch square. All rods coming through the top, to allow wiring options. The idea is to see how much I can get with out running afoul of the O2 sensor, then see how much I can "correct" with the COSM ll.

Cell almost complete ( ran out of 1/2" plastic bar). I was wrong about the plate size. I said they were.. 5 1/2" X 5 1/2". They are 5" X 5". Instead of paying the $50.00 min. at the fabrication shop. I soldered the nuts on the back of the plates with silver solder. I call my test platform a test donkey because it's to small to be a mule. The 91 Geo Metro is my other test donkey. Looks like I'll be driving an 09 PT crusier at work. I told the warehouse manager I heard they were not real good on gas. He asked my to put my hho cell in it. I told him no. That stays in my car. If he can get it oked I will build another tiny one and put it in the PT crusier. They would love getting over 5 more M.P.G. 5 is a guesstiment based on the difference in weight and aerodynamics between the Geo Metro and the PT crusier. Could be a little money to be made here. We shall see.

Saturday was not so bad. Got everything done at the warehouse, made it to Tap Plastics. Washed my clothes while working on the cell. Need to get my test donkey ready. My donkey has a 110v ac motor which turns an alternator which keeps a 12v dc battery charged. I know exactly how the cell will perform in the vehicle.

I was really hoping to work on this project Sat. I mowed the front lawn after work to give me more time on Sat. Looks like no resaurant this weekend. Sat. I'll be doing some maintance and repairs at the wharehouse. Then come home and do some yard and house work. I hope I can get to Tap Plastics before they close Sat. I'd like to change the size of the cell. So I'll need more plastic. I'd also like to move on to my next experiment. Envolving a fuel pump, fuel injector, and PWM. atomized water will ignite to a degree. VW still in mind. I'd like to try hho and atomized water togather.

I managed to cut the 1ga. cable and attach the lugs today ( Sunday). I cut the cable with a pair of long handled pruners. The type with the curved blade. Cut through the cable very easy. Only removed some of the paint on the blade. Blade is still sharp. This is all the progress I could make on this project today. Yard work and house work took most of my time. And the repair to a Suzuki Swift hood. Which I will use on my Geo Metro. I like the size of the composit head lights on the Suzuki Swift. They are bigger than the Geo's composit lights. The head lights on my Geo now are rectangle and sunken in ( good air catchers). Saturdays I like to spend with my brother. We try out a different restaurant every Saturday. And talk a lot. He is collecting parts and info. for a Mustang 8 cyl. into a Miata engine swap. So there is always a lot to talk about. I'm glad he has his own project now. Maybe he'll leave mine alone.

Hey all,
Sorry to be away so long, life, work and snow have taken a toll. I am also working on one of my other dreams, I'm doing the entire music( voice and guitar) for a wedding next month, got to practice, practice, practice.

NSMS, I feel for you, I got behind on my business taxes yeas ago, could not keep up with the intrest and fines. It was cheaper to pay them off with a credit card. I wish you luck.

HHO, I'm trying to get my father in law to find a solid bug or fastback for me, The out-laws are in Pheonix so most are rust free but expensive. Having owned and modified them in the past, I'm sure I can get 50+ MPG out of one with HHO.

All parts for cell are here. Been working around the house a lot. Ever since the pest guy busted the sprinkler valve. I'm almost caught up with repairs and organizing around the house. SO I should be back in rhythm soon. Still shooting for testing next month.
